The UHF illuminated RFID tag – also known as a passive illuminated tag or LED object tracking and positioning tag – is a specialized RF tag that integrates a miniature LED indicator into a standard UHF passive RFID tag. It is compatible with the ISO/IEC 18000-6C (EPC C1G2) universal UHF protocol and utilizes the reader's RF energy to power the LED, eliminating the need for a built-in battery. This tag enables dual functionality: batch inventory counting and individual item visual positioning, effectively addressing the industry-wide challenge of "reading the tag but failing to locate the item" when dealing with dense shipments, archives, or cables.

1. Energy Harvesting: The UHF reader emits RF electromagnetic waves at 840–960 MHz; the tag's antenna couples this RF energy, which is then converted into microampere-level DC current by a rectifier circuit, simultaneously waking up the RFID chip.
2. Command Matching: The handheld or fixed reader sends a specified EPC/TID retrieval command; all tags within the field are read in batch; the chip only activates the LED circuit when a target tag with a matching EPC is detected.
3. Lighting Indicator: Upon successful matching, the micro-LED continuously flashes or stays lit, allowing users to visually identify the target item; the LED automatically turns off when the tag leaves the reader's coverage area, ensuring no additional energy consumption and extending the tag's lifespan. Additional distinction: The market offers two types of RFID tags – passive (mainstream) and active –: -Passive tags: No built-in battery; low cost; service life ≥ 10 years; read/write range of 3–8 m; ideal for warehousing and archival applications; -Active tags: Contain a built-in lithium battery; read/write range up to 30 m; higher cost; require periodic battery replacement; less commonly used for large-scale outdoor asset tracking.
